Okay, let’s be honest. Cleaning the bathroom isn’t exactly at the top of anyone’s favorite chore list. However, it’s a task that must be done, and I’ve got something to make it a little bit easier. Rather than suffer through all the fumes and chemicals of a standard cleaner, reach for this heavy-duty homemade bathroom cleaner – it really works!
DIY Homemade Bathroom Cleaner
Love it or hate it, cleaning is one of life’s necessities. To look on the bright side, it can also be an opportunity to slow down and approach life intentionally. Sometimes after dinner, I find that washing dishes can be therapeutic, as it gives me a chance to practice mindfulness after a hectic day.
Other areas that need to be cleaned – like the tub and tile in the bathroom – also provide opportunities to be in the moment. But, let’s be real! The bathroom is definitely one of the least glamorous room-scapes in your home, right?
But what if we could sneak a little aromatherapy into our cleaning routine? That’s exactly what we are doing with this homemade bathroom cleaner! Not only does it smell amazing, but it is safe, effective, and economical too. And, yes, it really DOES work.
Why should I make my own bathroom cleaner?
Store-bought cleaning products can be corrosive and hazardous to both people and pipes! Using natural products with simple and effective ingredients provides an alternative solution.
So, what’s the ONLY way to know that you are cleaning with safe, natural ingredients? Mastering the art of DIY cleaning products like this DIY tub and tile cleaner.
Plus, creating your own homemade bathroom cleaner will cost you pennies on the dollar when compared to items on the store shelf. Win-win!
How do I make a natural bathroom cleaner?
Here is how I put my clean cleaning convictions into practice.
You’ve heard me share about my passion for Young Living products. One of my FAVORITE Young Living products is the Thieves Cleaner. By using this brilliant product, we are starting with an excellent cleaning base powered by plants.
For those of you who like to go rogue when they’re given a recipe, you’ll also be adding 15 drops of essential oils to the DIY recipe. Here is your place to shine and to tailor the recipe. Citrus oils (especially lemon), peppermint, and basil are some of my go-to preferences that smell “clean” but also offer disinfecting properties.
In the recipe card below, you’ll note that you are using both liquid castile soap AND hydrogen peroxide. That’s because liquid castile soap is great at cleaning…but not so great at disinfecting. Hydrogen peroxide, on the other hand, is a potent disinfectant. Combined, these are a powerhouse pair!
How to Use this Homemade Bathroom Cleaner
Using this natural cleaner is so easy! Just shake the product before each use, then spray the target areas, like your tub or tile. Then, let the cleaner sit for a few minutes, before you wipe and wash away.
The result is a deep, sparkling clean, and a wonderful (non-chemically!) smell!
How long will this homemade bathroom cleaner last?
Young Living’s Thieves Cleaner does not have an expiration date, but to increase the product’s longevity and potency, Young Living recommends storing the products away from excessive heat and out of direct sunlight.
Using distilled water in your DIY Tile and Tub Spray (instead of tap water) increases the shelf life of your product. I also highly recommend using a dark glass bottle rather than clean to prolong the shelf-life, as some of the ingredients (hydrogen peroxide) shouldn’t be exposed to light.
