The first time I heard about Poo Pourri, I was fascinated. Does it really work? Well, I can say that it really does cut the stink! Spray it in the water before you go, and the smell is virtually unnoticeable. It’s like magic!
This toilet spray is super easy to make, and it is affordable too. Plus, you probably already have everything you need right in your house.
DIY Poo Pourri As A Homemade Gift
Do you know anyone with a fantastic sense of humor? If you do, this is the perfect gift for them! You might include it in a basket for a newlywed couple (along with other new-home items). Or, add it to a family member’s stocking at Christmas.
This is also a great thing to keep in an Airbnb or give to your college student to take with them when they move out. It’s actually a pretty thoughtful gift! It eases social anxieties and keeps the air smelling fresh!
How To Make DIY Poo Pourri
You just need a handful of all-natural ingredients to make this spray. Please take my advice – as you make the toilet spray, use a small funnel (like in the photo below). It is really difficult to pour some of the ingredients, and the funnel prevents you from spilling and making a mess.
Here is what I used to make my DIY PooPourri:
- 1/2 tsp. rubbing alcohol or vodka
- 30 drops essential oil
- 1 tsp. vegetable glycerin (similar) (or a squirt of dish soap)
- water to fill the rest of the bottle
- 4 oz. glass spray bottle
- label (optional)
Every time you want to use it, just shake the bottle and then spray it directly in the toilet before you use it. That’s how easy it is!
The Best Essential Oils For A Toilet Spray
Any type of essential oil is going to work in this spray. If you want a little inspiration, my favorites ones are:
- Purification
- Thieves
- A combo of eucalyptus and peppermint
How Long Will DIY Poo Pourri Last?
I have not had my own spray for very long, but most DIY essential oil cleaners like this last about 6 months before the aroma begins to weaken and deteriorate. It doesn’t “go bad,” but after too long, the oils won’t be as strong or as effective.
However, If it is used every day, it will run out before the aroma weakens.
